Treatment Summary

Prevention is the key to long-term healthy teeth and here at Billingham Dental, that starts with dental care for children.

We are dedicated to providing our youngest patients with the healthiest start in life when it comes to their teeth and overall oral health.

By helping to instil healthy habits, and providing them with the regular care their teeth need we can ensure our young patients not only have a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums but a beautiful smile too.

FAQs

When should I bring my child to see the dentist?

It can be hard to know when to start bringing your infant in first to see the dentist, but a good rule of thumb is to book an appointment when their first teeth start to come through, or by the time they have turned one.

How often do children need to visit the dentist?

Because check-ups are so important as a child’s teeth develop, we recommend visits every six months for our youngest patients. This can vary from child to child, depending on their needs.

Do you have any advice to help with teething?

Teething is a particularly tricky period both for the child and the parent because it can produce so much discomfort for the child. We recommend using teething rings to help get rid of some of this discomfort. Other things that can help include rubbing the gums – try first with a clean finger, but if this doesn’t make a difference then the back of a chilled spoon or a cold cloth might help. Teething items that are very hard can sometimes do damage to any emerging teeth, so we recommend steering clear of these. If you have any questions, or think your child may need pain relief, then our team can answer any questions you have.

What kind of child dentistry treatments do you provide?

Aside from regular check-ups, some other treatments we provide children include dental sealants, which can help prevent cavities and fluoride treatments to help protect the teeth against decay.

What dental care should I provide at home?

It’s important to establish and enforce good dental hygiene at home. This starts by leading by example and trying to always refer to dental hygiene in positive terms. Children, like adults, should brush their teeth twice a day.
